Disney Challenge Day 19: Favorite Pixar

50 Day Disney Challenge
Day Nineteen: Favorite Pixar Movie

I'm OBSESSED with The Incredibles!! I think it is SUCH an underrated movie and I just love it SO much!!! My friends kind of hate watching it with me because I'll just start reciting the entire movie without even realizing it. The characters are amazing and the story is just perfection. There's also the fact that I love superhero movies (Avengers, heck yes!). When I was younger I wanted to be Violet SO badly. Her powers were (and still are) my favorite and I could relate to how shy she was and then eventually grew out if it and became more confident. During this one field trip with my Spanish class we saw this Pixar exhibit, and there were clay models of the characters and my teacher told me that I reminded her of Violet, and it made me so happy. It frustrates me that they haven't even really thought about making a sequel to this. I've expressed my feelings about this earlier this year already, but I still hold firm! I think Disney really needs to recognize this movie more.

Okay, I think I've expressed my love enough for tonight ;)

Disney Challenge Day 18: Least Favorite Classic

50 Day Disney Challenge
Day Eighteen: Your Least Favorite Classic

Even though I'm a big fan of classical music, I've never really liked the Fantasia movies. I don't think I've ever been able to watch all of Fantasia 2000. When I was little I would get bored with it too quickly, and since then I've never really had the urge to watch it again. I'll probably appreciate it a lot more now, but it's still probably my least favorite classic.

Disney Challenge Day 17: Favorite Classic

50 Day Disney Challenge
Day Seventeen: Your Favorite Classic

I searched for a list of Disney movies that count as "classics" and to my surprised, The Lion King was on there! (Gosh I feel old now....) This movie is my favorite Disney movie of all time, so it's only fitting to have it as my favorite classic as well. If I only had to choose from the really early Disney movies, Bambi might be my favorite true classic, but I've never really thought about it!

Disney Challenge Day 16: My First Disney Movie

50 Day Disney Challenge
Day Sixteen: My First Disney Movie

Of course the first time I saw my first Disney movie was when I was extremely little, so I had to ask my parents about this one. However, they weren't sure either! My dad kept saying it was Aladdin, but both my mom and I had to disagree with that one. We ended up choosing either Bambi, The Fox and the Hound, or Pinocchio, all three movies I haven't seen in a very long time! I do remember watching these when I was really little though, so it very well could be any of the three!
Do you remember your first Disney movie?

Disney Challenge Day 15: Favorite Kiss

50 Day Disney Challenge
Day Fifteen: Your Favorite Kiss

To be honest..I had to think about this one for a bit. I've never really thought about my favorite kiss from a Disney movie. But, since Aladdin is one of my favorites, and today was actually it's 20th anniversary (wow, I feel old now!) I've got to say that this is my favorite kiss! I just like how Magic Carpet acts as the perfect wingman and gives them both what they've been wanting ;) Also looks the most realistic to me, in regards to animation!

Updates, News...and a New Blog?

Hello my lovelies! I thought it was about time to give you an update on everything going on, such as future plans for this blog and what I have in mind for the future.

But first, I have a big announcement! I have officially created a new blog dedicated to my creative writing! Writing is one of my biggest passions, and I realized that it had been way too long since I had actually sat down and written something (stories, poems, etc.) since my creative writing class ended last year. Learning from my experience from this blog, I decided that creating a blog to share my pieces would be a way to encourage myself to stay motivated and dedicated to writing!

If you would like to take a look (and maybe follow?) it's called Ignite My Imagination. Of course, I have a Tumblr that's attached to it, which can be found here!

Onto the updates for this delightful Disney blog...

Most of you have probably noticed, the posts I've mainly been doing are for my Daily Disney Challenge. I've been using this as a countdown for my upcoming Disney College Program, which is starting to come sooner than I could imagine!

I've also decided to kind of put a hiatus on the weekly posts such as Disney Tune Tuesday and Five Confessions Friday while I'm doing these challenge posts. I'm not saying this is permanent, I just can't promise that I can dedicate myself to posting something religiously each day it's supposed to be posted. I'm starting to hit the home stretch of my last semester in community college, so the work load has been pretty hefty compared to normal. I do plan on posting other Disney updates and posts besides the challenge days, so don't worry!

I have a surprise for you! Remember the Disney Fairy Tale Wedding Series by Alfred Angelo? Well, the designers created a third collection in the series! I'll be posting those sometime in the near future so you can see the beautiful dresses and creations they made this year.

Also, many of you might have wondered what happened to the Disney Prom Dress series I was posting earlier (they were popular posts, I would never abandon them). I was planning on continuing with the series, but the Alfred Angelo website took the dresses off the internet! Whenever I'd click the link to get to the collection, it'd say the page didn't exist! If you see the page working again, please let me know!

That's about it! As I said, things are starting to wrap up with my last semester in my college before I do the DCP and transfer to a new school (yikes!), so my life is going to get very busy very soon! But don't worry, I will not stop blogging!

For my United States readers, I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving! To everyone, I hope you have a magical weekend!

See you soon!

Disney Challenge Day 14: Least Favorite Song

50 Day Disney Challenge
Day Fourteen: Your Least Favorite Song

This song has always kind of freaked me out...two Siamese cats creepily singing to Lady just to intimidate her and freak her out? No thank you. It was never my favorite part when I would watch the movie as a kid, so I decided it's probably my least favorite Disney song (which is really hard to choose).

Disney Challenge Day 13: Favorite Villain Song

50 Day Disney Challenge
Day Thirteen: Your Favorite Villain Song

I've used this song before for a Disney Tune Tuesday, but it's definitely my favorite Disney villain song so I'm going to share it again!

I love Scar, he's my favorite Disney villain (as I've stated in a previous challenge day post). I love the beat to this song, and just the pure evil you can feel and sense just from the tune without any lyrics. The hyena comments are hilarious, and just make it that much better!

What's your favorite Disney villain song?

Disney Challenge Day 12: Favorite Love Song

50 Day Disney Challenge
Day Twelve: Your Favorite Love Song

The minute I heard this song while watching Enchanted, I fell in love. I downloaded it and listened to it on my iPod over and over again. I think it's just so incredibly beautiful, and even magical. The scene itself in the movie is also gorgeous, and I was really excited when the song was nominated for "Best Film Score" or something like that. I've also decided that I want this song to be my first dance song at my wedding. When I was watching World of Color in Disneyland a couple summers ago for the first time, this song came on during the sequence of heartfelt Disney scenes, and I started crying it was so beautiful.

Okay, enough gushing over this beautiful love song. What's your favorite Disney love song?

Disney Challenge Day 11: Favorite Song

50 Day Disney Challenge
Day Eleven: Your Favorite Song

"A Whole New World" has always been my favorite Disney song. Aladdin is one of my top two favorite Disney movies of all time, and I think this song definitely is a reason why I love the movie so much. I just find the song to be so beautiful and amazing, the voices are flawless and the tune always gets stuck in my head. I learned how to play it on the piano, and sometimes (try to) sing it while I play. I'm not necessarily a great singer but it's still fun to sing at the top of your lungs when you're home alone with your dogs and cat! ;)

What's your favorite Disney song?

It's a tie between Mickey and Minnie. They're both adorable separately, but together they're just perfection :)

Disney Challenge Day 9: Favorite Couple

50 Day Disney Challenge
Day Nine: Your Favorite Couple

I think Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder are absolutely adorable. I love their story, how he was an orphaned thief that accidentally found a lost princess, and it wasn't love at first sight. Their adventures brought them together and changed both of them for the better. She didn't care that he had a rough past, and he still fell in love with her even when he didn't know she was a princess. They're so fun, lighthearted and adorable.

Happy Birthday Mickey!

Today is a very important day in Disney history!

It's Mickey Mouse's 84th birthday!!!

To celebrate this monumental day, I decided to find some photos of Mickey throughout the years. Enjoy!

His very first film, Steamboat Willie!
His first color cartoon in 1935, "The Band Concert"
1947 with Donald and Goofy in "Fun and Fancy Free"
His big movie, Fantasia!
"Mickey's A Christmas Carol" aired in 1983!
"Runaway Brain" in 1995
1999, "Mickey Mouse Works" (with Donald and Goofy)
Mickey Mouse today!
He really has gone through an amazing transformation since the very first short film was released way back in 1928. He does have a 3D-like version of himself on Playhouse Disney, but I don't really care for that kind of Mickey. 2D version will always hold a soft spot in my heart!

Have a magical day!

Disney Challenge Day 8: Favorite Villain

50 Day Disney Challenge
Day Eight: Your Favorite Villain

Scar is that sassy, sarcastic uncle everyone wants....until he kills your father/his own brother for his personal gain for the crown. I personally love Scar's sarcastic humor. As villains go, you have to be really messed up and evil if you're willing to kill your own brother, blame it on your nephew and live without any guilt. His song is also my favorite villain song.

Who's your favorite Disney villain?

Incredible Lion King Tribute

Nick Pitera's done it again.

This week (today, actually) celebrates "The Lion King's" 15th year on Broadway! In tribute to the show's anniversary, Youtube sensation Nick Pitera decided to make a one man singing tribute! As usual, it gave me chills. Definitely a must see!

One Man Tribute to Disney's Lion King on Broadway
by Nick Pitera

It's one of my personal goals to see "The Lion King" on Broadway. It's my favorite Disney movie, and has such amazing music!

Also, if you haven't seen Nick's One Man Disney Movie...watch it right now! It's absolutely incredible!

SIDE NOTE: I just recently began creating a new page list filled with other Disney College Program blogs. If you have a DCP blog, let me know your URL, role, and term and I'll add you to the list!

Have a fabulous day!

Learning at Disney University!

Whenever I tell people that I'm doing the Disney College Program, they say, "There's a Disney college?!" To my delight, I can answer yes! Disney does offer classes during the DCP, and they range from engineering, to business, to entertainment!

There are many benefits to taking classes during the DCP. It can help you maintain full-time student status at your college, help you earn college credit (if allowed), help you network with important people within the Disney company, and above all help you gain exceptional knowledge from a leading business that you probably won't find anywhere else.

Personally, I decided to take two classes: Exploring Guest Service and Exploring Marketing (I'm a marketing major). These will not count as college credit for me, beings that I'm technically not going to be in school during the program and I'm transferring to a different one after my program ends. Some classes can count as college credit though, if your school allows it. The only way to make sure is to know which classes you're going to be taking, and then speak to a college counselor to verify whether or not they will count as credit. Some schools take certain classes, and others do not. It really depends on the school.

There's technically no tuition for these classes. Some classes (the ones that require more homework, usually) cost around $30 per class. This fee covers supplies and books you might possibly need during the course. The entire list of classes offered during the program can be seen here.

From what I remember during registration, the collegiate courses were the ones that had a fee, but the Exploration Series (which includes my two classes) were completely free. It will tell you which classes cost how much during your registration.

You can select up to two classes to take, and each class will take place during non-peak periods during your program. You will also be assigned 30-40 work hours per week while you're taking classes, and 30-50 hours if you're not. I was hesitant about taking two classes because I didn't want to stress about having to work also, but I can't pass up the opportunity to learn and network with important people if I want to try and have a career with Disney.

Oh! One last important note! If you need to take classes at your college to stay up to date with credits, you can take a Distance Learning class. This will give you pre-planned blocked out time for you to work on your online class(es) and stay up to speed with your school! They also have proctored test options if necessary.

I hope this helps anyone who had questions about the education opportunities during the DCP! Here's a video that can show you a little more about the classes:

Disney Challenge Day 7: Favorite Sidekick

50 Day Disney Challenge
Day Seven: Your Favorite Sidekick

When I watched Pocahontas for the first time in a long time earlier this year, I forgot how funny that movie can be. Meeko and Flit make certain moments hilarious! I think without them, the movie would be much more serious. I think they're a pair of classic Disney sidekicks that definitely go overlooked!

Tom Hanks as Walt Disney?

Walt Disney (left) and Tom Hanks (right)
This week, Tom Hanks was spotted on set of his newest drama, Saving Mr. Banks dressed as none other than Walt Disney himself. Of course, I immediately wanted to know more about this film. Turns out, Saving Mr. Banks is a new biographical drama film about the production of Disney's Mary Poppins

After reading a short summary about the movie, it looks like the plot will be based around the author of the Mary Poppins children's book, P.L. Travers:

"The film centers on the life of Travers, shifting between 1907 with her childhood in Queensland, Australia, the negotiations with Walt Disney and the making of Mary Poppins in the 1960s. While in California for filming, Travers thinks back to her difficult childhood in Australia, most especially to her father, the inspiration for the role of the story’s patriarch, Mr. Banks." -Source

As previously mentioned, Tom Hanks will be playing Walt Disney. Hanks prepared for his role by visiting The Walt Disney Family Museum and interviewing some of Disney's relatives such as his daughter, Diane Disney Miller. Emma Thompson is going to be P.L. Travers, Colin Farrell will be Robert Goff Travers, and Paul Giamatti is going to be Travers' chauffer, Ralph.

I remember reading about the production of Mary Poppins and remember it wasn't an easy one for Disney. P.L. Travers was hesitant to give him the rights to make a movie and was worried they would ruin the book. However, Disney insisted and managed to strike up a deal. After the movie was finished, Travers wanted to change some parts of the production. Disney just looked at her and told her that all the rights to the movie belonged to him once the film had been finished, and there was no going back.

I've always wondered who would be a good Walt, and I'm curious to see how Hanks is going to pull it off. He obviously has some resemblance physically, but the acting is going to have to speak for itself in order to pull it off. It will be curious to see what happens.

Saving Mr. Banks comes out in theaters December 2013.

Disney Challenge Day 6: Favorite Animal

50 Day Disney Challenge
Day Six: Your Favorite Animal

The minute I started watching Tangled for the first time I fell in love with Pascal! He's so dang cute and adorable I just can't get enough of him. He doesn't talk or anything (..like most animals I guess...) but I think he's unique in comparison to other Disney animal characters because he's a chameleon. I mean come on, how cool is that?! He can change colors! It just adds to his adorable-ness.

Okay. Enough ranting about the how adorable he is (even though I could continue..)

Who's your favorite Disney animal character?

Disney Challenge Day 5: Favorite Hero

50 Day Disney Challenge
Day 5: Your Favorite Hero

I'm assuming Tarzan counts as a Disney hero, since he isn't an official prince. I love how different he is, and how he fell in love with Jane's quirkiness and natural intelligence. He really cares about his family, and embraces the fact that he's different from everyone else he's ever known. The movie is also really great, along with its soundtrack. Definitely one of my favorites!

Disney Challenge Day 4: Favorite Prince

50 Day Disney Challenge
Day Four: Your Favorite Prince

Aladdin used to be for sure my favorite Disney prince, but after watching Tangled that changed. Now Flynn Rider/Eugene Fitzherbert is one of my favorites as well. It really is a tie between the two, which I find hilarious because they're both orphans and thieves. I think Aladdin is one of my favorites because he's really kind hearted and nice. I think Flynn is hilarious, and his face characters in the park are usually quite attractive ;)

Five Confessions Friday: Day 24

Happy Friday! I hope everyone has a magical day! :)

Walt Disney Confessions Tumblr

Confession One:

“Sometimes the those face characters creep me out with all their makeup and smiles!! It’s just not normal and is very uncomfortable! I wonder how they feel to smile all the time even if someone is mean to them, they must have a lot of guts.”
I never really talk to the characters when I'm at the parks, but I gotta give it to them credit for staying in character so well.

Confession Two:

“Sometimes I feel like I have to hide my love of Disney. I feel like my roommates judge me when I choose to watch a Disney movie instead of getting drunk with them, so I make up some excuse about being tired or feeling sick. I’m always relieved when they’re gone.”
Liking Disney is kind of my label for most people haha. They know I'd rather stay at home and watch a Disney movie instead of go out and drink.

Confession Three:

“It makes me sad when I see blonde Rapunzel stuff outside of her movie. If she’s blonde, it means she’s still under the thumb of Gothel and not free to make decisions or be with Eugene or her real family. I wish she was brunette more often.”
Well..people don't know Rapunzel as the girl with short brown hair...just saying.

Confession Four

That's really an amazing story. I'm so happy to see Disney work in ways like these.

Confession Five:

“I find it sad that this generation of children will remember Disney mainly for Disney Channel, with shows like Shake It Up… I’d much rather remember Disney for it’s classics such as The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast.”
I feel like the new Disney Channel shows don't embody the Disney message at all. It's really a shame.
